Chris Sutton has poked fun at the fanfare surrounding Rangers striker Joe Garner.

Pundit Chris Sutton has reminded Rangers fans on Twitter that striker Joe Garner has more bookings than goals this season.

Garner, 28, joined Rangers in a big-money deal from his boyhood club Preston North End over the summer, and after hitting 57 goals in 151 games for the Lilywhites, he headed to Ibrox with big expectations.

Despite scoring early into his time at Rangers with a goal against Celtic in September, Garner has found the back of the net just three times for the Gers this term, and hasn’t scored in his last seven games.

However, Garner has been the talk of Glasgow this week, as his never-say-die attitude and willingness to engage in battles with defenders have made him an Ibrox cult hero, with Rangers fans now loving their new hitman.

In fact, the fanfare went to new heights this week, as Rangers fans adapted the song Glad All Over by The Dave Clark Five to sing for the striker, and then bought the original in droves in a bid to take it to Christmas number one.

That attempt ultimately failed, but Garner is winning fans by the week at Rangers, just as he did with former club Preston – but not everybody is quite so enamoured with the hype surrounding him.

Pundit Chris Sutton – formerly of Celtic – was asked on Twitter whether he would rather have Garner or Celtic outcast Nadir Ciftci, and whilst he didn’t directly answer that particular Celtic v Rangers question, he did comment on Garner.

Sutton noted that Garner is now improving for Rangers, but couldn’t believe the Christmas number one story, whilst poking fun at the Gers and their striker by reminding fan that he has more yellow cards than goals this season – in fact, almost twice as many.
