Rangers beat Aberdeen 4-2 in an enthralling encounter on Wednesday night.

Pundit and ex-Celtic player Chris Sutton looks on prior to the Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on December 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers and Aberdeen played out a perfect advert for Scottish football on Wednesday as Steven Gerrard’s Gers claimed a thumping 4-2 win at Pittodrie.

The Gers took the lead as Alfredo Morelos scored from close range after Joe Lewis could only parry a Ryan Kent shot, but Sam Cosgrove equalised from close range for the Dons after some penalty box pinball.

Rangers went back in front with an outstanding left-footed finish from Morelos, and James Tavernier squeezed home a penalty after a Scott McKenna handball.

More twists and turns came after the break as Tavernier hauled down Lewis Ferguson for an Aberdeen penalty, which Cosgrove slammed home.

McKenna and Morelos were then both sent off for a bizarre clash, and 10-man Rangers soaked up Aberdeen pressure before hitting them on the break, with Jermain Defoe scoring his one chance of the game.

Everybody who watched the game will admit that it was an entertaining encounter, and pundit Chris Sutton took to Twitter to praise the game in a very specific way.

Sutton highlighted that there are people who criticise Scottish football, but believes that Aberdeen v Rangers was a much better game than West Brom’s last night.

The Baggies were in FA Cup action as they were beaten in extra time by Brighton in their fourth round replay, with Sutton clearly not impressed by the 120 minutes of action at The Hawthorns compared to the humdinger at Pittodrie.
