Chris Sutton hit out at a Newcastle fan after he claimed that he wanted his club to get relegated because of Steve Bruce.
The former Premier League striker questioned whether the Newcastle fan was a true supporter as he labelled the comments ‘daft’ on BBC’s 606.
Newcastle suffered a narrow defeat to relegation-threatened Watford yesterday, only days after getting hammered at the hands of Manchester City.
During BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 phone-in, a Newcastle fan named Peter rang in to express his displeasure towards Bruce.
Sutton asked the Newcastle fan whether he thought his club would go down at the start of the season and he said ‘I hope that we would’.
“You what? You hope that you would go down,” Sutton responded back.
Newcastle fan: “Aye, then it would have proved that we should have kept Rafa Benitez.
Sutton: “So, you wanted your club to get relegated? You call yourself a Newcastle fan and you wanted your club to get relegated just because you don’t like Steve Bruce.
Newcastle fan: “There are 10,000 like me who are boycotting. We’ve got Steve Bruce.
Sutton: “Well, you are not a Newcastle fan if you want to see your club get relegated, are you? How can you call yourself a Newcastle fan? – But they [fans protesting] they wouldn’t want to see Newcastle relegated as you do. This is just getting daft, isn’t it?”

With the takeover talks still hovering over St James’ Park, the fans simply want to see that completed, so a new chapter can start on Tyneside.
If the Magpies do get taken over by wealthy owners then there’s no doubt that they will invest heavily and will want to have their own manager in charge regardless of what fans think of Bruce.
