Celtic and Rangers will lock horns in the first Old Firm of the new Scottish Premiership campaign at the start of September.
Chris Sutton has knocked back a Celtic fan who suggested that Neil Lennon’s side have already won the Scottish Premiership title ahead of Rangers.
The Bhoys started off the new campaign with a stunning 7-0 win over St Johnstone at Parkhead, with Rangers taking on Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon.
There has been a lot of talk about whether Celtic will win nine-in-a-row this season, or whether Steven Gerrard can stop their rivals from creating history.
Speaking to 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live (03/08/2019 at 6:45 pm), former Celtic man Sutton reacted to a Bhoys fan claiming that the Scottish Premiership title is already sealed.
“I mean you have gone a little bit early there,” Sutton told 606. “I mean slightly premature. “Is that not progress getting through that tie [in Luxembourg] then?
On Celtic’s win against St Johnstone: “With respect, it was St Johnstone, who have had a particularly poor league cup campaign. I don’t think Celtic fans should be crowing about beating St Johnstone, albeit it was an emphatic victory. One swallow doesn’t make a summer.”
The first Old Firm clash will fall on September 1 at Ibrox before they meet once again in December at Parkhead. That fixture before the winter break could turn out to be very crucial.
During that period last season, Gerrard’s side went into the winter break level on points with Celtic, but a poor second-half showing resulted in the Bhoys sealing the title in a rather comfortable fashion.
