Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to back Neil Lennon after the Celtic boss criticised Olivier Ntcham for suggesting that he is too good for the Scottish Premiership and is looking to leave Parkhead this summer.

In comments reported by The Scottish Sun, Lennon admitted that he was not at all happy to hear Ntcham hint so openly about wanting to leave the Hoops, and insisted that the Bhoys are not a stepping stone for any player.

And Sutton has since taken to social media to hit out at Ntcham, and insist that Lennon had every right to issue his response. The former Celtic striker suggested that the Frenchman was not good enough last season to make such an arrogant statement…

The Scottish Sun reports that Ntcham has a number of European clubs monitoring his situation, including Marseille, Lyon and Porto. So Celtic should not have too much of a problem offloading the former Manchester City man if that is what they decide to do.

As good as Ntcham can be, it makes little sense to keep the 23-year-old if he is so unhappy to stick around. As Sutton notes, he was not one of the Hoops’ best players last season, so denying him a move away could have a negative impact on his valuation in a future window.

Celtic are still right to not let Ntcham secure an easy move from the club while he probably can attract a very large fee. But it certainly seems that letting him go could prove to be the best decision for all parties at this stage.
