Celtic have once again failed to qualify for the Champions League having been dumped out by Ferencvaros on Wednesday.

The Bhoys crashed out to AEK Athens in 2018 and then CFR Cluj in 2019, but few really thought that Celtic would lose to Ferencvaros.

The one-legged tie took place at Parkhead last night, and Celtic were stunned early on as David Siger smashed home a superb long-range effort.

Ryan Christie pulled Celtic level after the break, but Tokmac Nguen won the game for Ferencvaros as he raced clear of Hatem Abd Elhamed to score.

The Hungarians advance to the next round, and Celtic have crashed out of the Champions League qualifying rounds at the earliest stage in 15 years.

There’s no doubt that this was an embarrassing night for Neil Lennon, even more so than when his side were beaten by Cluj last year.

Now, pundit Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to blast the performance, branding Celtic’s display ’embarrassing’.

Sutton added that this was a ‘bad, bad night’ for Celtic, accusing them of failing to prepare well enough for the game.
