Pundit criticises Southampton’s decision to sack Claude Puel.
Sacked… Southampton manager Claude Puel
Chris Sutton has criticised Southampton over their decision to fire Claude Puel after just one season.
The Saints announced Puel’s sacking last night, bringing to an end weeks of speculation.
Puel led Southampton to an eighth placed finish and a EFL Cup Final, but failed to win over fans or really stamp his personality on the team.

Pundit and former player Sutton felt the decision was harsh, commenting via Twitter that he felt it was another example of modern football losing it’s way.
It is frustrating for Southampton that they are hitting the reset button again just one year after Ronald Koeman left them, but evidently the board did not have full faith in Puel.
He is the first manager fired by Southampton since Nigel Adkins in 2013, with Koeman and Mauricio Pochettino walking out on them for rival jobs.
The Saints struggled badly for goals in the second half of the season, and failed to score in five of their final six Premier League games.
There was no damage done during Puel’s tenure with Southampton retaining their status as a top 10 club, and they remain in a strong position to build from here, if they can find the right coach.
