Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts is reportedly on the verge of joining Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Chris Sutton has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to speculation that Patrick Roberts is on his way back to Celtic from Manchester City.

According to The Scottish Sun, Roberts will join Scottish Premiership club Celtic on a season-long loan deal from Premier League side City in the summer transfer window.

Talks between the Bhoys, the Citizens, and the winger’s representatives have taken place, with the two clubs reaching an agreement that will see the Hoops pay “pay a substantial loan fee and a hefty chunk of his wages”, according to the report.

Former Celtic striker Sutton has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to speculation that Roberts is set to return to Celtic Park for the 2017-18 campaign.

Meanwhile, former Celtic midfielder and manager David Hay has explained the importance of getting Roberts back on loan this season.

The 20-year-old winger returned to his parent club City earlier this summer after an 18-month loan spell at Celtic Park.

The England Under-20 international played well during his loan spell at the Bhoys, winning the Scottish Premiership title twice, and the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish League once each.

“Roberts would give everyone a massive boost simply because of the fact Celtic fans have spent the summer wishing his return,” Hay wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times.

“Getting him in would be like bringing in a big signing because he is wanted by the Hoops support but also because we have all been able to see that he has that little bit of magic that can turn a game.”
