Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has backed Martin O’Neill’s assessment of this Rangers side as the worst he has ever seen.

O’Neill told Talksport yesterday that he was desperately unimpressed with Rangers after watching them fall 30 points behind Celtic, who are unbeaten this season in domestic football.

Sutton responded to O’Neill’s comments, backing his former boss, and suggesting that a number of Rangers fans will even agree.

Sutton himself has been vocal for months during his punditry work about Rangers’ shortcomings, and asked questions about the direction manager Mark Warburton was taking the club in before his departure.

Graeme Murty has stepped up from his role as under-20s boss while the Gers look for a new manager, which they are doing alongside an attempt to recruit a director of football.

In the moment, Rangers are at a low ebb, but they are still on course for a top three place and potentially a top two finish if they can finish the season strongly, and must get their decisions right as they look to rebuild, even if the process takes a while.
