Rangers took on Aberdeen away from home this evening.

Pundit and ex-Celtic player Chris Sutton looks on prior to the Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on December 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers were in league action tonight as they travelled to Aberdeen in what proved to be an incredible game of football at Pittodrie.

The Gers went in front as Alfredo Morelos turned the ball home, after Joe Lewis failed to hold a Ryan Kent shot, but Sam Cosgrove equalised from close range for the Dons.

Rangers went back in front with a sumptuous finish from Morelos, and James Tavernier made it 3-1 from the penalty spot following a Scott McKenna handball.

The game became even more dramatic in the second half, as Tavernier brought down Lewis Ferguson for an Aberdeen penalty, which Cosgrove slammed home.

McKenna and Morelos were then both sent off for a nasty altercation, and whilst Aberdeen pushed for an equaliser, Jermain Defoe smashed in a fourth for Rangers to seal a 4-2 win.

Rangers managed the game well after Morelos was sent off, and Defoe’s finish summed up his quality, but some may feel they got a little fortunate at one point in the second half.

As Aberdeen ace Ferguson was bursting forward, Rangers goalkeeper McGregor raced out to claim the ball, but clearly left a foot high into Ferguson’s shin.

Pundit Chris Sutton was asked about the incident on Twitter, and believes referee Bobby Madden ‘bottled it’ as it should have been a penalty and another red card in Sutton’s opinion.
