Celtic have a major advantage heading into the second leg of their Champions League qualifying tie against Alashkert after picking a 3-0 first leg win.

The Bhoys have qualified for the group stage of the Champions League for the last two years under Brendan Rodgers, and were searching for a perfect start to their campaign this time around.

A trip to Armenia was on the cards for Celtic as they took on Alashkert in the capital of Yerevan, and Rodgers’ men got the result they wanted with a comfortable victory.

Odsonne Edouard marked his first game as a permanent Celtic player with the opening goal, as the French forward diverted James Forrest’s wayward shot into the corner of the net.

Forrest did find the net himself in the second half though, as the Scottish winger capitalised on poor defending to place a loose ball into the back of the Alashkert net.

Callum McGregor then wrapped up the win, driving a left footed strike into the corner of the net to hand Celtic a 3-0 and virtually assuring that they will be in the next round of Champions League qualifying.

It was the perfect performance for boss Rodgers as Celtic made their dominance count and head back to Scotland with a clean sheet, and pundit Chris Sutton took to Twitter to react to the win.

Former Bhoys ace Sutton praised a comfortable performance, celebrating a clean sheet and a ‘job done’ despite the difficult conditions in Armenia.
