Celtic strolled into the final of the Scottish League Cup as they beat Hearts 3-0 at Murrayfield.
Chris Sutton has slammed those who believe that Celtic should not have had a penalty during the early stages of the second-half of their League Cup semi-final win over Hearts at Murrayfield.
After an underwhelming first-half between two of the Scottish Premiership’s top three, Celtic strolled through the second-half and booked their place in the final with an emphatic 3-0 win.
While the Hoops rarely looked to be in any trouble, there was some controversy regarding the first goal as Ryan Christie fell following a collision with Oliver Bozanic. Referee Willie Collum gave Celtic a penalty that Scott Sinclair converted.
Although the contact was minimal, it was a poor challenge to make and Bozanic hardly protested the decision. And it appears that the two set of supporters have very different viewpoints regarding whether the official made the right call.
But Sutton was adamant after the game that there should be no debate over whether Collum got the decision right…
Although Christie seemed to go down very easily, it would be completely wrong to say that he was not clipped. Had the same situation happened at the other end of the pitch, it seems likely that Craig Levein would want a penalty and Brendan Rodgers would be disappointed if the decision was given against Celtic.
The decision did not matter however, as Hearts barely landed a punch and Celtic stormed into the final with a superb second-half performance.
