Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths was not selected to start in Scotland’s latest World Cup qualifier against Lithuania.

Chris Sutton has suggested that he cannot understand why Gordon Strachan keeps overlooking Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

Scotland once again started with Chris Martin up-front in their latest qualifier against Lithuania, and the Fulham forward struggled.

Scotland could only pick up a 1-1 draw against Lithuania, and Martin’s display was a poor one.

The powerful forward rarely threatened throughout the contest, which caused great frustration.

Martin has found it difficult to find the net at club level, and he has only scored two goals in 10 appearances at international level.

There is pressure on Martin to impress, as Griffiths netted 40 goals last season, but Strachan seems to have reservations over using the Celtic man.

Griffiths has still only earned eight caps for Scotland, since making his debut back in 2012, despite his persistently excellent form for Celtic.

And Sutton has suggested that Strachan is making a mistake by continuously overlooking the Bhoys forward.
