Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths came on as a second half substitute for Scotland yesterday.

Chris Sutton says that it is totally embarrassing that Scotland do not start Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan appears to have reservations over picking Griffiths, despite the Celtic man seemingly being the most natural goalscorer available to him.

The Tartan Army have regularly picked Chris Martin to play up-front, but the Fulham forward has struggled to impress.

In his absence yesterday, Strachan turned to Steven Fletcher, but the Sheffield Wednesday man also failed to show his best form, as Scotland fell to a shocking 3-0 defeat against Slovakia.

And Sutton was angered by the fact that Griffiths was only given a brief chance to impress in the second-half.

Griffiths has scored frequently for Celtic over the last two seasons, but he has continued to be omitted from the national side.

Griffiths is also facing a fight to win his place back at Celtic this campaign, following the addition of Moussa Dembele.

Griffiths finished last campaign with 40 goals to his name, but he now appears to be Celtic’s second choice striker – after Dembele’s brilliant start to life at Celtic Park.
