Ryan Christie has arguably been Celtic’s most impressive player over the past four weeks.
Chris Sutton has told The Record that he doubted whether Ryan Christie would ever make it at Celtic.
Christie has been a revelation for Celtic in the absence of Olivier Ntcham and Scott Brown, and the Hoops rewarded his form last week by extending his contract.
The 23-year-old returned to Parkhead in the summer after two decent loan spells with Aberdeen, and Sutton concedes that he thought the young Scot – who impressed in his country’s 4-0 win in Albania on Saturday – was the new Scott Allan.
Allan is officially a Celtic player, but the 26-year-old has only managed 13 Premiership appearances in three years, spending most of his Parkhead career out on loan.
“For all those two have stood out, perhaps Ryan Christie has shone the brightest,” he told The Record.
“Christie looked for all the world that he was going down the Scott Allan road to nowhere at Parkhead. Yet the injury sustained by Olivier Ntcham in the first half of the Betfred Cup semi-final at Murrayfield has proved to be a turning point in the lad’s career.
“I’m not going to tell you lies, I had my doubts that he was going to get his chance, or should I say, prove that he was worthy an extended chance. Christie has almost transformed the team.”
Christie has indeed been very helpful, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens when Ntcham returns from injury.
Ntcham, a £4.5 million signing in 2017, has been brilliant since joining Brendan Rodgers’s side and the Scotland international will have his hands full in keeping him on the bench.
That being said, you wouldn’t bet against him, not on this form.
