Steven Gerrard starts work as Rangers’ new manager at Ibrox on June 1.

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has claimed in his Daily Record column that he expects new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard to prove much more effective in the transfer market than Pedro Caixinha.
Gerrard, 37, has signed a four-year deal at Ibrox and is set to take control on June 1, but is likely to be drawing up shortlists of players ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.
The Gers have already been linked with a whole host of stars since Gerrard’s arrival, including his former Liverpool teammate Martin Skrtel who is currently playing for Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Sutton reckons ex-Liverpool and England captain Gerrard will prove much more successful in the transfer market than predecessor Caixinha, who brought a number of expensive flops to Ibrox in his first season.
“Rangers will spend big again and should have someone reputable to spend their money in Steven Gerrard as opposed to Pedro Caixinha filling a plane with his old pals and flying them to Ibrox,” Sutton said.

Caixinha brought in the likes of Eduardo Herrera, Carlos Pena and Bruno Alves on big wages and indeed hefty transfer fees, but all three have failed to impress. Dalcio, Aaron Nemane and Fabio Cardoso have also failed.
However, the Portuguese manager did bring in Player of the Season Daniel Candeias and top scorer Alfredo Morelos, while Declan John’s loan deal has become a permanent one after starring under both Caixinha and Murty.
But it was not enough to close the gap between themselves and Celtic and it remains to be seen if Gerrard can bring in the type of players capable of clawing back Brendan Rodgers’ side.
