Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min starred against Bournemouth on Sunday.
Pundit Chris Sutton has told the Daily Mail that he would take Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min over Manchester United’s January signing Alexis Sanchez.
United enjoyed a superb Saturday afternoon, as they beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford, though it wasn’t Sanchez on the scoresheet for the Red Devils, rather homegrown talent Marcus Rashford who bagged a brace.
On Sunday, Tottenham travelled to the South Coast to take on Bournemouth, and whilst they lost Harry Kane to an ankle injury in the first half, they returned to London with a 4-1 victory.
Both United and Spurs look set to finish in the top four this season, sending them back into the Champions League next season – and their proximity in the Premier League table leads to various comparisons.
Whether it’s Hugo Lloris v David De Gea, Victor Wanyama v Nemanja Matic, Harry Kane v Romelu Lukaku or even Mousa Dembele v Paul Pogba, players from the two sides have been compared regularly in recent times.
Now, pundit Chris Sutton has told the Daily Mail that, if he had the choice, he would take Tottenham star Son Heung-min over Manchester United’s January addition Alexis Sanchez, after Son starred again on Sunday.
With Kane out of the picture, Son again stepped up to the plate with two goals, and the South Korean winger has now notched 18 goals in all competitions in what has been a sensational campaign.
Son is now one of Mauricio Pochettino’s most reliable players, and Sutton has suggested that the £22million signing from Bayer Leverkusen (The Guardian) is the ‘next best thing’ to Kane at Tottenham, praising him for playing with a smile on his face and providing much better value for money than the ‘moody and sulky’ Sanchez, who has only scored once for United so far.
“If I was a Premier League manager, I would take Son Heung-min over Alexis Sanchez every day of the week,” said Sutton. “We talk about how influential Harry Kane is for Tottenham but Son is the next best thing. He has energised Mauricio Pochettino’s team. Everything he does is with a huge smile on his face. Contrast this with Sanchez, who often cuts a moody and sulky figure when he does not get his way. Think of the aggravation he gave Arsenal before his move to Manchester United. There is no such hassle with Son.”
“Pochettino has asked him to play in a number of different positions but he gives Spurs everything regardless. He is the model professional in every respect. Tottenham fell behind at Bournemouth and Kane went off injured, but Son put in a fine performance as a central striker. We are yet to see such a match-winning display from £600,000-a-week Sanchez at Old Trafford. Son has scored seven goals in his last four games while the Chilean has found the net just once in nine for United. It is clear to see which manager is getting the better value for money,” he added.
