Jermain Defoe joined Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers in the January transfer window.
Jermain Defoe of Rangers
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has defended Rangers striker Jermain Defoe on Twitter.
Defoe has joined Rangers on loan from Premier League club Bournemouth on an 18-month loan deal in the January transfer window.
The former West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur striker scored on his competitive debut for Rangers in Steven Gerrard’s side’s 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday evening.
Sutton has defended Defoe on Twitter when suggested by a Celtic fan that the 36-year-old Englishman may be past his best.

Important signing for Rangers
Defoe is not the player he once was, but there is no doubt that the former Tottenham striker can be a success at Rangers.
The striker is a proven goalscorer, and if the Rangers attackers are able to create chances for him, then he will finish them.
The signing of Defoe has enhanced Rangers’ chances of winning the Scottish Premiership title this season.
Rangers, though, will have to bounce back from their defeat to Kilmarnock in midweek.
