The Celtic pair will be hoping to get the better of England for Scotland this evening.
Chris Sutton – Glasgow Celtic
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has backed two Bhoys to have a big impact as Scotland face England this evening – if they are given a chance by Gordon Strachan.
The former Celtic star was speaking about the Parkhead duo of Leigh Griffiths and Scott Brown.
He poured scorn on Strachan’s previous reasoning for not playing Griffiths for Scotland, whilst praising the return of Brown after he came out of international retirement:
Celtic’s Scott Brown celebrates scoring their fifth goal
“The biggest thing for Gordon to do, though, is to pick the right team this time.
“He will not admit that he has got things wrong in previous games – when Oliver Burke was not even on the bench for the Slovakia game, for example – while what he said about Leigh Griffiths’ height as a reason for leaving him out was just utter nonsense really.
“The big news in terms of his selection for Friday is that Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has declared himself available and been called up, less than three months after retiring from international football.
Scotland manager Gordon Strachan
“I know from listening to Charlie Adam on BBC Radio 5 live earlier this week that he is not overly convinced that was the right decision but I think it was.
“Scotland are stronger with Brown in the side, and have a better chance of winning the game.”
Sutton is of course slightly biased toward Celtic but he raises a good point regarding the consistent overlooking of Griffiths by Strachan.
Celtic’s Leigh Griffiths before the match
The Celtic striker has been a goal machine in recent years and has still struggled to play regularly for his country.
As for Brown, his return has been welcomed by most fans and Celtic supporters will know just how important their captain can be to the national side going forward.
Both will be hoping to start v England this evening when the two oldest football rivals meet yet again.
Sutton clearly feels the pair can be a threat for England and Celtic fans will revel in their success if that proves true.
