Celtic winger Michael Johnston is a very talented player.
Chris Sutton has spoken highly of Celtic winger Michael Johnston in The Daily Record.
The former Celtic striker was impressed with the performance of Johnston during Celtic’s Champions League Qualifying First Round tie against FK Sarajevo last week.
The 20-year-old winger scored for the Hoops, as the Scottish Premiership won the first leg of the two-legged tie 3-1.
Sutton was impressed with Johnston, and he believes that the upcoming 2019-20 campaign will be very important for the 20-year-old winger.
The BBC and BT Sport pundit has also been impressed with how the youngster has responded since his performances for Celtic in the Old Firm derbies against Rangers.
Sutton wrote about Johnston in The Daily Record: “A lot is expected of the lad and this is going to be an extremely important season. Let’s be honest, he was shafted in the two Old Firm games at Ibrox last season.
“Johnston was unfairly chucked in up front in the first one and a lot put on his shoulders in the second one. Celtic lost both and he was harshly made a scapegoat but I’ve been impressed with his response since.
“Neil Lennon had a bit of a pop at him after the Scottish Cup Final over his fitness but you can see the reaction it’s got.
“Johnston’s taken everything on board and looks determined to become the player everyone has tipped him to be for years.”
Promising talent
Johnston has made a handful of appearances for the Celtic first team so far, and his performances have largely been encouraging and impressive.
It is not going to be easy for the winger to play week in and week out for Celtic next season, but if he continues to do well and develop, then manager Neil Lennon will have no choice but to make him a regular in his starting lineup.
