Celtic still look a long way off being able to compete in the Champions League.
Writing his column for the Daily Record, ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton outlined the improvements that his former club need to make in order to compete in the Champions League.
In what must feel like a very much familiar story for Hoops fans, Brendan Rodgers’ men have once again dominated domestically whilst struggling to reach the levels required to progress through the group stages of the Champions League.

They currently hold a seven point lead over second placed Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, with two games in hand, but remain rock bottom of their Champions League group after a return of just two points from their opening four outings.
Sutton, who scored 63 goals in 130 league outings for the Hoops, identified the key area that Celtic need to improve upon, if they are to regularly progress further into Europe’s elite competition, when writing his column for the Daily Record:
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers
“Brendan has spoken this week about making the last 16 of the Champions League on a regular basis. At the moment they are still two or three players short of getting that third spot in the group to get to the Europa League knockout stage. I still believe that central midfield role alongside Scott Brown is a key area. I’ve been impressed with Stuart Armstrong of late but I just think we’re looking at another level when it comes to Europe.”
The Glasgow giants next European outing is a home tie against the mighty Barcelona, where only a win, coupled with Borussia Monchengladbach defeating Manchester City, will be enough to keep them alive in the group.
