Former Celtic striker and current pundit Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to suggest that Rangers should look to bring Joey Barton back into their team rather than let him leave.

Barton, 34, helped Burnley win promotion to the Premier League last season, and whilst he could have made his return to the top flight, he made the shock decision to leave Turf Moor in order to join Rangers.

Seen as the Gers’ marquee summer signing following their promotion to the Scottish Premiership, Barton’s arrival in Glasgow sparked major excitement – but the dream move has turned into a nightmare.

Barton struggled to have the desired impact in his eight appearances for Rangers, and the volatile midfielder has now been suspended by the club for the last five weeks following a training ground row with team-mate Andy Halliday.

Barton’s suspension continues to be extended, and after a meeting between Barton and Rangers was held on Thursday, his departure from the club seems all but a formality.

Barton’s two-year contract looks like it will come to an abrupt end in January, but one pundit believes Rangers should be looking to keep hold of Barton rather than let him leave.

Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to suggest that Rangers and manager Mark Warburton should look to get Barton back on the pitch, as he remains one of the club’s most talented players.

Sutton suggested that playing the best players is the best way to get results, after Rangers were only able to draw 1-1 at home to St. Johnstone on Wednesday evening.
