Chris Sutton not impressed by Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong

Stuart Armstrong was taken off at half-time during Celtic’s 1-0 defeat to Anderlecht in the Champions League last night.

Chris Sutton has told BT Sport that he felt Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong ‘went missing’ against Anderlecht last night.

Celtic were beaten 1-0 at Parkhead in the Champions League yesterday, with Brendan Rodgers’ side’s performance disappointing.

The Bhoys were largely outplayed by their Belgian opponents, with the Glasgow side’s performance in the first half particularly disappointing.

Rodgers was clearly not happy with what he saw, as he took off both Scott Sinclair and Stuart Armstrong at the break.

And Sutton claims that Rodgers got his decision to take the pair off correct, as they both failed to impress.

“I thought Rodgers got it spot on with his substitutions. Sinclair has been a disappointment this season, and Armstrong went missing in the first-half,” Sutton said.

Sinclair was replaced by Tom Rogic, while Armstrong was taken off in favour of Olivier Ntcham.

The pair did spark an improvement in Celtic’s play, but it was not enough to inspire Rodgers’ side to victory.

In fact, Anderlecht actually scored their winning goal in the second half, when Jozo Simunovic diverted a cross into his own net.

Thankfully for Celtic, they did enough to hold on to third spot in their Champions League group, despite their poor performance, which confirms that they will be playing European football in 2018.
