Glasgow Rangers have sacked Pedro Caixinha, and Chris Sutton believes that one man is perfect for the Ibrox hot-seat.

Chris Sutton has told BT Sport Football’s official Twitter account that Derek McInnes is the perfect man for the Rangers job after they parted company with Pedro Caixinha on Thursday.

Caixinha was sacked by the Gers after their 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock which saw them drop to fourth in the Scottish Premiership just a handful of days after they were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup at the semi-final stage by Motherwell.

Once again, the next appointment is crucial for the Light Blues if they hope to end Celtic’s dominance of the Scottish game any time soon. And Sutton feels the man who has turned Aberdeen into the Hoops’ closest rivals over the past few years is the perfect option for the Gers to consider, while a former boss should be considered if the primary target is not available.

“Going forward, Derek McInnes, it has to be Derek McInnes. He seems the obvious choice, turned down Sunderland, done a fantastic job at Aberdeen, took his team to second, beat Rangers in the table last season. Somebody who knows the mechanisms, the working of Rangers Football Club who’s going to bring a bit of pride back to the support,” he told BT Sport Football on Twitter.

“If not Derek McInnes, then, for me, someone like Alex McLeish with people who know the club like Alex Rae and Barry Ferguson, they know the club inside and out, that would be the logical step for me.”

Of course, McInnes’ connection to Rangers – having played for them during his career – may make the opportunity to try and elevate them out of their current rut a more appealing opportunity than it may seem on paper following Caixinha’s tenure.

But, if Rangers do make an approach for McInnes, it will be interesting to see whether he deems an Ibrox move to be in his best interests when he has done such a fantastic job with the Dons, and when there appears to be little guarantee that brighter times are ahead for the Gers any time soon.
