Glasgow Rangers are still looking for Mark Warburton’s permanent replacement, and Sutton has offered them some advice.

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has told the Daily Record that Rangers do not stand a chance of bringing either Frank De Boer or Alan Pardew in as their next manager.

The Gers are still looking for Mark Warburton’s permanent successor after his bizarre departure from Ibrox last week, and two of the names that have been linked are De Boer and Pardew.

While it is unclear whether either find themselves on the Rangers hierarchy’s radar, bookmaker SkyBet currently list both men within their top five favourites for the position – the Dutchman is considered to be slightly more of an outsider at 12/1 while Pardew is listed at 4/1.

But Sutton has looked to dampen the hopes of Light Blues fans who would jump at the prospect of either man taking the job by insisting that he cannot see either turning up at Ibrox anytime soon.

“Let’s deal with something right away. Talk about the likes of Frank De Boer and Alan Pardew is bonkers,” he told the Record.

“There is not a chance these guys would consider taking the Rangers job at this moment in time.

“For a start, Rangers don’t have the money to pay the type of wages these gaffers would be demanding.

“And, even if they did somehow fund their appointments, it would empty the piggy bank and leave the managers without a penny to spend while trying to outwit Brendan Rodgers who will have about £30 million in the bank to play with.”

General View of Ibrox Stadium

While Sutton is adamant that neither will be replacing Warburton, it could be argued that, if the terms are right, both may have reasons to be tempted by the Scottish Premiership side.

Both managers were dismissed by their previous clubs earlier this season, so the chance to repair some of the damage to their reputations may appeal if they feel that they can put together a Rangers side capable of closing the gap to Celtic.

And with De Boer playing for the Gers during his career – albeit briefly – and with the agent recently insisting that money will not be a factor in his decision (via Evening Times), it is perhaps premature for Sutton to write off the chances of the former Inter Milan coach returning to Ibrox just yet.
