Glasgow Rangers have appointed Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as the Gers’ manager, and Chris Sutton says that he would keep James Tavernier, Wes Foderingham and Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton named on the Scottish Football Extra show on BT Sport 1 last Friday evening (7:12pm, May 4, 2018) the three Rangers players he would keep at Ibrox next season.

With Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard being appointed the new Rangers manager, the Gers will be looking to make changes to their squad in the summer transfer window in order to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title next season.

Former Celtic striker Sutton has named the three Rangers players he would keep at Ibrox for the 2018-19 campaign – right-back James Tavernier, goalkeeper Wes Foderingham and striker Alfredo Morelos.

Sutton said on the Scottish Football Extra show on BT Sport 1 last Friday evening (7:12pm, May 4, 2018) when asked which Rangers players he would keep at Ibrox next season: “Off the top of my head, maybe Tavernier and the goalkeeper. Morelos, I would keep Morelos.”

Important to keep

While it would be impossible to sell their entire squad or buy a new one in the summer transfer window, Rangers should be looking to keep their best players, including Tavernier, Foderingham and Morelos.

Foderingham has performed consistently well for Rangers, while Morelos has scored 14 goals and provided six assists in 31 Scottish Premiership appearances for Gers this season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Although the 21-year-old Colombian striker, signed from HJK Helsinki in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £1.5 million, has been out of form for the Gers for a while, he has proved to be a bargain signing.

Tavernier is one of the best right-backs in the Scottish Premiership, and Rangers would find it hard to find a suitable replacement for him if they sell him in the summer transfer window.
