The Bhoys are going to get even better when Patrick Roberts joins from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
According to The Daily Record, the 20-year-old winger is on the verge of moving to the Glasgow giants on a season-long loan deal which will cost up to £3 million in wages and and fees.
Roberts enjoyed a successful 18-month loan spell at Celtic Park before returning to his parent club City earlier this summer.
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has welcomed the (reportedly) imminent return of the ex-Fulham youngster to Brendan Rodgers’s squad.
The Englishman has suggested that Rangers and Aberdeen will be wondering how they can close the gap between themselves and Celtic.
Both the Gers and the Dons will be aiming to finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season and give the Hoops a run for their money.
Pedro Caixinha’s Ibrox outfit Rangers third in the Scottish Premiership last season, while Aberdeen ended up second.
“The kid can score goals, he’s a lovely finisher on that left foot,” Sutton wrote about Roberts in The Daily Record. “But the thing I really like about him is his ability to pick a pass and slide someone in on goal.
“Celtic’s other wingers strike me as being runners, athletic, fast and can get at people with their pace. Roberts is more cute when he comes inside. He’s got better awareness.”
“If you are Aberdeen or Rangers looking at this deal, it would make you shake your head and wonder how on earth you can get near them,” added Sutton.
