Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers were briefly on top ahead of Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic this month.
James Tavernier of Rangers
Sutton has taken a dig at the Rangers right-back for recently talking about teams trying to knock Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club off the top spot in the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers went top of the Scottish Premiership table earlier this month after winning against Heart of Midlothian and also moved to pole position recently after defeating Hamilton Academical.
On both occasions, Rangers’ time at the top of the pile was brief, and former Celtic striker Sutton has mocked 27-year-old ex-Newcastle United right-back Tavernier.
Sutton wrote in The Daily Record: “James Tavernier talked about teams desperate to knock you off when you are top of the league. Come off it James, you were up there for six days this year, not six months.
“Fair play to Rangers for getting to the summit but the reality is they have been fortunate Celtic have been so inconsistent this season and have carried so many passengers.”

Challenging Celtic
Rangers are now third in the Scottish Premiership table with 35 points from 18 matches, just four points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic.
The Gers’ recent performances and results have not been great, and it is clear that the Ibrox club need to step up and put together a run of positive results.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Rangers win against Celtic at Ibrox in the Old Firm derby next weekend.
