Tottenham Hotspur’s second choice goalkeeper has really impressed when called upon this season.
Chris Sutton suggested that Paulo Gazzaniga is a better option for Tottenham than Hugo Lloris at the moment, when speaking exclusively to BBC Radio Five Live at 17:27 on Sunday January 13th.
The France international has been a fine servant for Spurs, since joining the club from Lyon for around £8 million in the summer of 2012.
He has certainly been kept on his toes since the Argentine joined Tottenham from Southampton in the summer of 2017, however, and there is an argument that the 27-year-old has done enough to earn a regular starting spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
That’s Chris Sutton’s view anyway.
The 45-year-old suggested that Lloris, 32, is a dodgy goalkeeper, and claimed that his understudy would be a better option for Spurs, when speaking exclusively to BBC Radio Five Live:
“I think Gazzaniga is a better option than Hugo Lloris. Lloris is a dodgy keeper, Gazzaniga is a better option.”
Lloris has made some fairly high-profile errors for Tottenham this season, and at 32, there will be questions asked as to whether he is still good enough for the job.
Gazzaniga has certainly staked his claim, but the question will be how does Lloris respond over the next few months?
If the Frenchman is not at his best between now and the end of the season, he might very well find himself playing second fiddle to the former Saints stopper.
