Chris Sutton has responded on Twitter to Kyle Lafferty’s claims about Rangers winning the title.
Rangers attacker Kyle Lafferty has made the huge revelation that the players at Ibrox believe they can win the league this year, which would end Celtic’s seven-year stranglehold on the top-flight title.
The 30-year-old re-joined the Gers in the summer and has admitted there is a confidence within the group of achieving something special this year.
“It will be tough. Celtic have been champions for many years but we now have a squad that can compete,” Lafferty told radio station Cool FM, as cited by the Daily Record.
“Everyone in the Rangers dressing room believes that we’ll get 55 and that this will be the year we’ll win the league.”
Steven Gerrard’s side will have to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Old Firm rivals Celtic last weekend, who are still the firm favourites to lift the league crown.
Ex-Celtic ace Chris Sutton has responded to Lafferty’s comments on social media by stating “here we go again”, as cited by his official Twitter account.
Sutton is clearly in the camp that Rangers will be fighting a losing battle when it comes to a title challenge, but they have looked a much stronger side under Gerrard.
The Light Blues have qualified into the Europa League group stages already and just need to sort out their domestic form after the international break.
They have a number of fresh faces in their side performing well, with the likes of Connor Goldson and Allan McGregor adding some extra steel to the defence.
Rangers have not won the Scottish league title since the 2010/11 season and it would be some achievement for Gerrard to do that during his first year of management.
