Celtic star Tom Rogic’s fitness levels need to be addressed according to Chris Sutton.

Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton shared his concerns about Tom Rogic’s fitness problems and continual issues with injuries, when writing his column for the Daily Record.

The 23-year-old Australia international made the move to Celtic Park in January 2013 for the nominal fee of £400,000, and has since gone on to make only 35 league starts for the Hoops.

He has sustained a succession of injuries during his time in Glasgow, including a groin problem which required surgery and forced him to be unavailable for selection for 23 games during the 2014/15 season.

Sutton believes that Rogic is a classy player, but is concerned by his failure to complete the full 90 minutes on a regular basis, as quoted by the Daily Record:

“I like Tom Rogic, he’s a classy player with a big future but at some point the fitness issue is going to have to be addressed. I don’t know how to solve it. Rogic is only 23, he should be in his pomp. I know he’s had serious injury problems over the years but at his age and at this stage he should be capable of playing 90 minutes. There has to be a solution. Playing games will help long term and I’m sure he will know it himself.”

Rogic has appeared in eight of Celtic’s 10 Scottish Premiership outings so far this season, and boasts an impressive goalscoring record, finding the net four times during those games.

For those eight games, however, he has averaged just 70 minutes per match, and for a player who is so integral to Brendan Rodgers’ side, he must look to improve upon those figures for the rest of the season.
