Chris Sutton has questioned Celtic’s Head of Recruitment Lee Congerton and stated ‘work certainly has to be done in January’ following Rangers’ title challenge.

The Gers beat their Old Firm rivals 1-0 over the weekend to move level on points with leaders Celtic in the table – Ryan Jack scored the only goal of the game.

Despite Brendan Rodgers side having a game in hand on the title-chasing pack, the challenge for the Scottish Premiership title during this campaign has arguably been at its strongest for a long while.

As a result, the January transfer window will arguably play a big part in the title race as clubs across England and Scotland strengthen their squads.

The transfer window officially re-opened on Tuesday and clubs in the Scottish Premiership will be busy looking for players despite being on a winter break.

TV pundit Sutton believes Celtic need to act in the window if they want to continue their dominance in Scotland’s top-flight as he questioned the club’s senior figure.

“Most Celtic fans know there is a title challenge and if they want eight in a row then work certainly has to be done in January,” Sutton told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“And Lee Congerton, head of recruitment, you know, what has he done since he’s been at Celtic?”

A former Welsh footballer, Congerton was handed the role of Head of Recruitment at Celtic Park in March 2017.

Over the summer, the current Scottish champions opted to sell star striker Moussa Dembele to French side Lyon in a deal worth £19.7 million, as reported by BBC Sport.
