The former Aston Villa striker has commented on the club’s chances under Steve Bruce.
Former Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton has bad news for his old side.
Sutton played nine times for the Villans during the 2006-07 season, scoring once, having previously played under new Villa Park boss Steve Bruce at Birmingham City.
It has been so far so good for Bruce on the other side of the second city, with the 56-year-old taking four points from his first two matches in charge.
Villa’s bad start, however, means that despite the side’s recent improvement they are still playing catch up in their pursuit of promotion to the Premier League, from which they were relegated last season.
That said, the Villans are only six points off the play-offs at the time of writing, and still have 33 games in which to make up ground on the top six.
Bruce certainly won’t be phased by the task, having delivered promotion from a similar position while at Birmingham.
But can the former Hull boss repeat that feat at Aston Villa? Sutton, it seems, is skeptical.
When asked if the Villans will be promoted under Bruce, the 43-year-old posted definitively on Twitter:
