Two goals from summer signing Moussa Dembele helped Celtic into a 2-0 lead by the 42-minute mark, but Joe Garner halved the deficit for the Gers just before half time to restore an element of competition for the second half – or so they thought.
In fact, Brendan Rodgers’s side accelerated further away from Rangers after the break as Scott Sinclair restored the Hoops’ two-goal lead on the hour mark.
It went from bad to worse for Mark Warburton’s side with 15 minutes to go as Philippe Senderos, on his Rangers debut, was sent off for a second yellow card.
Dembele then completed a fine hat-trick, before Stuart Armstrong sealed the opposition’s humiliation with a fifth goal late on. It was a five-star performance from the team, but also from the fans who made Celtic Park rock yesterday.
One man who was particularly impressed with the atmosphere was former Bhoys hitman Chris Sutton, who says that the fans are simply “unbeatable”.
