Chris Sutton has long labelled himself a fan of Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos despite plenty of criticism over his ill-discipline, but he told BT Sport 3’s coverage of the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night that enough is enough – and something needs to change.

The Colombia international was shown his third red card of the season on Wednesday night for two yellow cards, the second being given for lashing out at Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie – striking the Dons man in the face.

The 22-year-old did not enjoy the best of nights at Ibrox, missing plenty of chances including a second-half effort from eight yards out that he lashed over the bar – when he really should have scored.

Referee Steven McLean showed Morelos the red card, making it 10 on each side after Sam Cosgrove was sent off. Celtic legend Sutton criticised the former HJK Helsinki star, despite being a fan of his.

“I like Morelos, he’s such a valuable player, but something has to change,” Sutton said. “He has to settle down because he is starting to cost Rangers games. How many times is he going to let his manager down?”

Morelos is renowned for his fiery approach to the game, picking up 10 yellows and two red cards prior to Wednesday’s clash. The striker is now set to pick up another ban, after already being suspended for Dundee on the weekend.

With 17 goals this season, Morelos now has 35 goals in his 72 league and cup appearances for the Gers – as well as offering plenty of creativity by laying on 18 assists since his £1.1million move to Ibrox (Scottish Sun).
