Chris Sutton does not believe Celtic boss will sell his key players too cheaply

Celtic are currently having to fend off interest in Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele.

Chris Sutton has told the Daily Record that he does not believe Brendan Rodgers will make the mistake that many of his predecessors at Celtic have.

Celtic have been guilty of letting their top talents leave Parkhead too cheaply in recent times, only to see their values sky rocket elsewhere.

And with the Bhoys’ youngsters now attracting the attentions of Premier League clubs, there is a fear that Celtic could make the same mistake again.

Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele have both caught the eye of top English clubs in recent times.

However, Sutton does not believe that Rodgers will be letting any player leave Celtic on the cheap.

“Celtic undersold themselves badly when they accepted £13 million from Southampton for Virgil van Dijk. That’s not hindsight, I was saying at the time he was as good as John Stones and City were paying Everton £48 million for him,” Sutton said.

“That must be a lesson learned. In fairness, you couldn’t see the mistake happening under Brendan Rodgers’ watch.

“He made his position on fees crystal clear throughout the Dembele speculation last season. It’s about the abilities of the player and not the environment in which he plays.

“That’s why Celtic will demand in excess of £30 million for the French striker.

“If he keeps progressing the way he is just now, that should be the figure where any future bidding starts for Tierney. At the very least.”

Celtic are thought to not be under much pressure to sell their key assets, but keeping them happy may be difficult.

The Bhoys need to progress in European competition to stand a chance of keeping hold of their key players for the years ahead.

Both Dembele and Tierney are considered to be two of the top talents in Scotland, and Celtic are sure to have to fend off interest in the pair in the coming transfer windows.
