Scott Sinclair has not started a single Scottish Premiership game this season with Neil Lennon not a fan of the Hoops winger.
Chris Sutton believes that Scott Sinclair’s time as Celtic’s star man is over with the winger tumbling rapidly down the pecking order since Neil Lennon took over in February, speaking to the Daily Record.
The former Aston Villa and Manchester City winger was arguably the most influential player during Brendan Rodgers’ trophy-laden reign at Parkhead. Sinclair scored 60 goals in three years under the current Leicester City boss, winning the domestic treble in each season.
So few expected the 30-year-old to fall so quickly out of favour under Rodgers’ successor.
He’s featured just four times in 13 games so far in 2019/20 and was even left out of the matchday squad entirely for the 2-0 win away at Rangers before the international break.
With the summer signings of Maryan Shved and Mohamed Elyounoussi adding further competition out wide and with Mikey Johnston getting better by the week, Sutton can see no way back for a player who was Celtic’s star man not so long ago.
“Scott Sinclair appears to have no future at Celtic. Europa League squad or not, the winger has been out in the cold,” Sutton said of the £3 million man.
“James Forrest, Mikey Johnston, Lewis Morgan are ahead of him. Shved is there and Neil Lennon has brought in Elyounoussi on loan and he cost Southampton £16 million last term.”
According to The Mail (27 August, page 65) Sinclair turned down a potential move to the MLS while Sunderland failed to get a deal done on the final day of the summer transfer window last week, as reported by the Northern Echo.
Perhaps Sinclair will manage to win over Lennon but, as it stands, it feels like he should have seized the chance to escape his Parkhead purgatory.
