Chris Sutton has delivered his verdict on Norwich City’s decision to release John Ruddy.
Ruddy, whose contract contained a one-year extension option, is one of seven first-team players let go by the Canaries on Tuesday – despite them having no full-time manager and one game left to play.
Sebastien Bassong, Steven Whittaker, Ryan Bennett, Michael Turner, Youssouf Mulumbu and Kyle Lafferty are also on their way out of Carrow Road, although none can claim to have had as big an impact as the 30-year-old goalkeeper.
In seven seasons at Norwich, Ruddy has made just shy of 250 appearances, won two promotions and is one of only three remaining members of Paul Lambert’s side that finished second in the Championship in 2010-11.

And after BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey called for Ruddy to be given the send-off he deserves in the Canaries’ final league game at home to Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, Sutton replied:
Sutton began his professional career at Norwich, where he scored 35 goals in 102 league games before moving on to Blackburn Rovers.
