Chris Sutton has backed Chelsea to move for Julian Nagelsmann, who is also on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues and Spurs are both looking for a new manager after parting company with their previous head coaches.

Chelsea sacked Graham Potter at the start of April, after less than seven months in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The Englishman had suffered 11 defeats from 31 games since replacing Thomas Tuchel on 8 September.

Meanwhile, Spurs are looking for a new manager after parting company with Antonio Conte in March.

The Italian left Tottenham in wake of a mixed season and his dramatic post-Southampton press conference.

Nagelsmann, who has been relieved of his duties at Bayern Munich, is a reported target for both clubs.

However, Chelsea appear to have stolen a march on Tottenham towards appointing the 35-year-old.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has claimed that talks between Nagelsmann and Chelsea have been ‘positive’.

Plettenberg adds that ‘thinks are looking good’ for Nagelsmann to become the new Blues manager as things stand.

And Sutton seems confident that Chelsea will land the 2021-22 Bundesliga-winning boss ahead of Tottenham.

He told BBC Sport: “What is their next move?

“Julian Nagelsmann has been linked, also Mauricio Pochettino and Luis Enrique.

“I think they will go for a big name so I expect it to possibly be Nagelsmann. But it will be interesting to see.

“They have their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid next week, an enormous game.

“And surely they will want someone in charge by then.”

Short-term v long-term?

Nagelsmann is an ‘extraordinary‘ manager who would do an outstanding job at Chelsea and Tottenham alike.

However, the Blues have one of the strongest squads in the country, courtesy of their January spending spree.

Meanwhile, Spurs will likely need major surgery on their squad, which could take a few transfer windows.

Admittedly, Tottenham are much more likely to land a top-four place than Chelsea this season.

However, the Blues are probably better equipped to do well in the Premier League next season.
