Chris Sutton has applauded Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst as they produced another sensational display to draw 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund at Ibrox. It saw Rangers secure a 6-4 win on aggregate against the Germans.

Having stunned the WestFalenStadion crowd last week, Rangers were tasked with holding on to their 4-2 first-leg win. They did just that on Thursday night, as James Tavernier scored a brace for the Glasgow outfit.

Earning a penalty, Rangers boss Tavernier stepped up and scored the second of his three goals over the two legs – dispatching an effort down the middle. Dortmund came roaring back, largely thanks to Jude Bellingham.

The England midfielder scored his second of the two legs having netted a left-footed effort in the first leg – having created Dortmund’s first through Donyell Malen. It saw Dortmund go into the break 2-1 ahead at Ibrox.

However, Rangers came out in fine form in the second half – van Bronckhorst deciding to go to three at the back, replacing Borna Barisic with Leon Balogun. The tactical move worked to perfection.

Sutton reacts as Rangers beat Dortmund at Ibrox in Europe

It is a sensational win. While Rangers continue to struggle in the Premiership, they are head and shoulders above Celtic in European football – beating Dortmund 6-4 after Celtic had been knocked out of Europe.

That is, of course, in the Europa Conference League – the so-called third tier of European football, to Norwegian side Bodo-Glimt. Rangers were sensational and the fact Sutton even praised the Gers, says everything.
