Chris Sutton has given his immediate reaction on Twitter after Rangers produced a stunning result to beat Dutch side PSV Eindhoven away from home – and bring back Champions League football to Ibrox during the 22-23 campaign.

Rangers came into the game with the omission of Alfredo Morelos overshadowing the task in hand. Having drawn 2-2 at Ibrox, the odds were stacked against the Gers. Giovanni van Bronckhorst chose to leave Morelos out of the squad.

Without the Colombia international in the 23-man travelling party, Antonio Colak continued up front. It was the summer signing’s goal – his fifth effort in eight games for Rangers – that saw Rangers progress into the group stages.

It came after brilliant work from fellow new recruit Malik Tillman. Winning the ball back off of a PSV defender after a goal kick, he squared the ball for German-born striker Colak to score the only goal of the game. 3-2 on aggregate.

It sees Rangers continue their wonderful form in Europe after reaching the Europa League final last season. They join Celtic in the group stages, and Sutton has heaped praise on his old side’s arch enemies. He says they deserved to win.

What a performance. It was not just a lucky result away from home, but Rangers thoroughly deserved to go through. An enormous difference from the side that lost 2-0 to Union Saint-Gilloise in their opening qualifying game.

Tillman, Kent and Tom Lawrence were superb. James Sands looks better with every minute he plays alongside Connor Goldson and Jon McLaughlin once again, pulled off some crucial interventions. Lawrence even hit the bar.

A wonderful result for Rangers and Scottish football on a whole. The Gers can now look forward to a huge cash influx and Champions League football back at Ibrox this season – at least for six games in the group stages.
