Chris Sutton has blasted the Tottenham supporters who want Mauricio Pochettino ‘to go now’ following a number of questionable performances and results in recent weeks.

Over the weekend, Spurs arguably produced their worst performance of the campaign when they were beaten 3-0 at Brighton – only days after being smashed 7-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The manner of their performance on Saturday was worrying and it has only added to the problems Pochettino has had to deal with since the start of the season.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (07/10/2019), former Blackburn striker Sutton stated that it was ‘unbelievable’ that their are some sections of the fans who want Pochettino to go.

“I think there has been a massive overreaction,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live. “Talk of Spurs fans wanting Pochettino to go and go now. I really don’t understand it.

“43 days since they lost to Newcastle. He’s had five and a bit years at the club. He’s taken the club fifth, third, second, third and fourth. A couple of months ago, they were in the Champions League final. Their greatest ever victory, that comeback against Ajax. Unbelievable!

“People can hit us with stats. I understand that. But getting to a Champions League final was a big deal. But in the space of a couple of months at the start of the season, the criticism of Pochettino, the criticism of him changing formations. I didn’t hear the criticism when he chucked Llorente on in the Champions League semi-final. He was a footballing god and genius [back then].”

Tottenham have come a long way since Pochettino walked through the doors of the North London club, with the Argentine guiding them to numerous Champions League places.

They have hit a seriously bad patch since the start of the season, but Pochettino has already proven that he can refresh the squad and build them once again.

Regardless of what happens, Pochettino has been a key man for Spurs and if they are to get back onto their feet, he will be key to them showcasing their true worth once again.
