Marco Silva’s Everton have lost four out of their last five Premier League matches.
Chris Sutton has stated that Marco Silva shouldn’t be sacked by Everton, but did claim that Sam Allardyce was given the boot despite having a better win percentage.
Following the sacking of Ronald Koeman in November 2017, the Toffees opted to appoint Allardyce as their new manager, but he was sacked six months into his tenure.
In the summer, former Watford boss Silva was given the hot seat to the Goodison Park dugout, with the Portuguese coach making a number of big signings since his arrival.
The likes of Andre Gomes, Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina arrived from La Liga giants Barcelona, whilst Richarlison made the switch from Vicarage Road to Merseyside.
After losing to Leicester City on New Year’s Day, Sutton offered his opinion on whether Everton should sack their current manager as he compared him with his predecessor.
“I don’t think Marco Silva should be sacked,” Sutton told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live. “But what I have done is made a comparison to Sam Allardyce, who was sacked by Everton, and Marco Silva has had 48 days longer in charge. Allardyce had 26 games, Silva’s had 23 games. Allardyce’s win percentage is better.
“That’s what it is, that’s the comparison. Sam Allardyce got the sacked saying, ‘It’s not good enough’. Well, is it good enough under Silva? Why wasn’t Allardyce given longer?”
Prior to Wednesday’s Premier League fixtures, Silva’s side are sitting in the top 10, but they could drop into the bottom half if results go against them.
The defeat against Leicester on home soil also means that Everton have now lost four out of their last five league matches, with a crucial FA Cup encounter coming up at the weekend.
The Merseyside club will host League Two outfit Lincoln City, who knocked Burnley out of the competition two seasons ago when they were a non-league side.
