Rangers will be hoping to stop Celtic clinching yet another Scottish Premiership title this season.
Chris Sutton has claimed that Celtic fans will be saying ‘it all went a little pear-shaped’ for Rangers following their midweek defeat to Kilmarnock.
Steven Gerrard’s side, who travel to Livingston on Sunday afternoon, are currently six points behind their Glasgow neighbours in the Scottish Premiership table.
Former Premier League striker Sutton believes the Gers got ‘carried away’ with their Old Firm win prior to the winter break as he offered some brutal thoughts on their current position.
“This isn’t my opinion,” Sutton told BT Sport. “But there would be Celtic fans out there who would be saying, ‘well they may have got carried away with themselves [after the Old Firm win] and then on Wednesday it all went a little pear-shaped’
“They have gone from Champions League to Championship. One game! Come on.”
At the end of 2018, Steven Gerrard guided his team to a morale-boosting win over their rivals on home soil, but they backed it up with a damaging defeat at Fir Park on Wednesday night upon Scotland’s return from the winter break.
Following that result, Celtic dismissed St Mirren [BBC Sport] in a comfortable fashion on that same night and have since backed it up with a 3-0 win [BBC Sport] over 10th-placed Hamilton on Saturday.
Rangers, who are currently sitting fourth in the table, have a chance to move into second place and reduce the gap to leaders Celtic by three points if they see off Gary Holt’s side.
There are potentially four teams in the race to win the title this season, with second-placed Kilmarnock three points behind Rodgers side and Aberdeen a further five.
If Liverpool legend Gerrard does manage to push his team over the line then he would receive huge plaudits both in Scotland and England, mainly because he is in his first managerial career.
