Chris Sutton has told the Daily Mail that he believes that Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielders Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson are becoming a problem for England.

Henderson and Dier appear to be Gareth Southgate’s first choice pairing in midfield for the Three Lions.

However, the duo were not in the best form over the recent international break – as England just about squeezed past Slovenia and Lithuania.

Southgate’s men won both games 1-0, but Dier and Henderson did little to impress.

And Sutton believes that the Tottenham and Liverpool men have become a problem for their country.

“Central midfield is a problem. The first choice pairing it seems are Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson and they are a far cry from the incisive passers England used to boast in Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard,” Sutton said.

Dier and Henderson play crucial roles for their club sides, and they will surely start in Tottenham’s and Liverpool’s next matches.

Whether one of the pair will drop out when Southgate has all his midfield options available to him remains to be seen.

England could play the likes of Jack Wilshere, Adam Lallana or Ross Barkley in central midfield, but at the moment Dier and Henderson appear to be his first choices.
