Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily Podcast, Chris Sutton has heaped praise upon Leeds United and their manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The Yorkshire club have been the talk of the town this week after recording a stunning victory against Manchester City, and Sutton believes that they can now build on this result.

“It think that this would be their most outstanding result of the season. I believe that puts them in a great mindset going into next season – maybe push for a European place. Leeds aren’t a team that have household names as such, but Bielsa has created this monster,” Sutton said.

The BBC pundit is spot on here.

Leeds United aren’t a team full of household names. Before Bielsa came in the majority of their squad were playing Championship football, and to be honest, they weren’t excelling.

Just look at Stuart Dallas. He’s just scored twice against City in one of the best performances you’re likely to see all season, but before Bielsa came in, he was a winger struggling to make an impact in the Championship.

Leeds United’s squad is very similar to the one that was struggling under Paul Heckingbottom, but when you watch the players on the pitch they’re almost unrecognisable.

Whether or not Leeds can make the European run that Sutton talks about remains to be seen, but with the way they’ve performed this season, you’d be a fool to write them off.
