Celtic have a big challenge on their hands to overcome Rangers next season.
That’s because Steven Gerrard’s side have just cruised to Scottish Premiership glory and finished 25 points clear of Celtic.
The Hoops were going for a historic 10-in-a-row, but Rangers emphatically destroyed that bid with a ridiculously-consistent season which didn’t yield a single league defeat.
With their move to hire Eddie Howe as Neil Lennon’s successor collapsing, the rebuild at Parkhead hasn’t exactly been going well so far.
But according to Sky Sports News, Celtic are ‘confident’ of hiring former Australia boss Ange Postecoglou as their next manager.
But Rangers fans have been mocking the Yokohama F. Marinos boss – who does not hold a UEFA pro license – on Twitter since the speculation began.
And Chris Sutton, writing in his column for The Record, claims that it’s unfair by the Ibrox faithful, admitting he feels sorry for the 55-year-old.
He said: “Rangers supporters are having a right laugh about the situation and they are already writing off Ange Postecoglou as an Aussie Pedro Caixinha. I don’t think that’s fair.
“You can see the comparisons in that – like Caixinha – Postecoglou has a big personality, is not afraid of conflict and has had some success in non traditional footballing areas. It would be extremely harsh to completely dismiss him before he even gets in the door I actually feel sorry for the guy. He’s walking in to a Mission Impossible job right now.”
Even some Bhoys fans might be a little underwhelmed by Postecoglou after missing out on Howe, it has to be said.
Then again, Gerrard had zero experience in senior management when Rangers plucked him from training Liverpool’s youth side three years ago.
The Greek-born coach, on the other hand, has 25 years of experience in this gig and that has to count for something.
