Alfredo Morelos was in action as Rangers beat Celtic on Saturday in the Old Firm derby.
Chris Sutton called Alfredo Morelos ‘old Buffalo brains’ and claimed he should have been sent off ‘three times’ during Rangers’ win over Celtic on Saturday at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard’s side secured a deserved 1-0 win over their Old Firm rivals, with Ryan Jack scoring the only goal of the game in the first half.
Striker Morelos was involved in the action throughout the match, including a number of off-the-ball incidents, which have caused a reaction from former Celtic man Sutton.
The 22-year-old was involved in three separate incidents, with Scott Brown, Ryan Christie and Anthony Ralston – referee John Beaton did not hand out any cards to the youngster.
Former Premier League winner Sutton admitted that he is a ‘big fan’ of Morelos’ style, but believes he should have seen red at Ibrox.
“He [Morelos] plays on the edge, doesn’t he?,” Sutton told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live. “I am a big fan of his, but old Buffalo brains, I mean he should have been sent off three times against Celtic. But he is a handful. He has got to curve that [aggression].”
It remains to be seen if Morelos is punished by the authorities as the Scottish Premiership takes a winter break following a busy festive period.
The Gers are level on points with Celtic in the table, but Brendan Rodgers side do have a game in hand on their opponents.
Both Glasgow clubs are on 42 points, with third-placed Kilmarnock a point behind and Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen not far behind the pack.
Upon their return to action in 2019, Rangers will play Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup Fourth Round before returning to league action against Kilmarnock on January 23.
