Chris Sutton claims Christian Eriksen isn’t the biggest problem at Tottenham

Christian Eriksen is out of contract at Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season as there is only one place he is seemingly heading towards.

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton has claimed that Christian Eriksen isn’t the biggest problem at Tottenham by ‘any stretch’ as he claimed that Dele Alli has been ‘far worse’.

Both Eriksen and Alli have been well out of form for some while now, with the Dane expressing at the start of the season that he wanted to leave the club as his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

That hasn’t helped Eriksen’s situation, who has been in and out of the side, as the attack-minded duo started the defeat at Anfield over the weekend.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (28/10/19 at 7:45 pm), Sutton defended Eriksen, who he thinks is taking most of the hits, even though other players have been much worse than the playmaker this season.

“Is he not being the scapegoat in all of this though, Eriksen?” Sutton questioned on 5 Live Sport. “Singled out when there are clearly other players, the likes of Aurier [who have been poor also].

“I don’t think he has been as bad as you [Ian Wright was critical of Eriksen] are making out. He’s had a lot to deal with but I don’t think he’s the biggest problem at Spurs by any stretch.

“Why aren’t we talking about Dele Alli? He has been far worse than Eriksen. He [Alli] was struggling last season. I don’t see Eriksen struggling last season.”

There’s no doubt that Eriksen’s decision to express his desire to leave has not helped his relationship with the supporters, who have now lost complete faith in the player.

It is obvious to one and all that he is only heading one way and that is for the exit door. But the only question that has to be asked is, will he leave in January or will he part ways with the North London outfit next summer?

Either way, the players currently putting on the shirt have to produce the goods for the team because it is harming their chances of finishing in the top-four places in the Premier League and their hopes of progressing through to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
