Chris Sutton claims Brendan Rodgers has sent warning to Celtic’s Craig Gordon

Celtic stopper Craig Gordon was left out of Brendan Rodgers’ side’s last starting line-up.

Chris Sutton has told Scotsman that Brendan Rodgers has sent a warning shot to Craig Gordon by picking Dorus De Vries ahead of him in Celtic’s last match.

De Vries started for the Bhoys against Dundee on Saturday, and the former Swansea man impressed during the contest.

The veteran goalkeeper has been second choice to De Vries throughout the campaign so far.

And while Sutton feels that Gordon remains number one, he does feel that Rodgers has offered a big warning to the Scotland international that needs to pick his form up.

“It may be a bit of a warning shot to Craig that De Vries has come in and done well,” he said. “But I think the truth is that Craig Gordon will start on Wednesday night, there’s no doubt about that.”

De Vries actually appeared to be Rodgers’ first choice goalkeeper when he took charge, but Gordon quickly won his place back in the team.

Gordon has generally impressed in net for Celtic over recent times, but Sutton has been a critic of the 34-year-old.

If Gordon is selected to start for Celtic against Bayern tonight, he is likely to be kept very busy.

Bayern know they need to beat Celtic to boost their chances of finishing second in their group, and the German giants are buoyant again following the appointment of Jupp Heynckes.
